Cape Winelands

When planning a trip to South Africa, especially the Western Cape, one of the must-sees of your Cape Town tour is the Cape Winelands. The Cape Winelands is a gorgeous countryside region that is home to numerous historic wine farms. You will see sweeping vistas of lush vineyards that meet the rocky mountain face of the Cape Fold range.

When you opt for a Cape Winelands tourism package, there are exciting sensations to experience. One of the most popular stops on these tours is the ancient town of Stellenbosch, an oak-tree lined town that is famous for its wines, vineyards, and impressive university.

Planning a tour of the Cape Winelands is no small feat, especially when you consider the variety of different routes available. With such an impressive variety, it can be difficult to make the choice of where to start. Consider your likes and dislikes when taking on this task.

Unique Activities Available

Aside from spending hours tasting wine and eating delicious food, there are several unique activities that you can take part in. The Winelands is a region steeped in history, and as such, often has quirky and unique activities available.

You could choose to experience the vineyards on the back of a donkey, see cheetahs up-close-and-personal, visit an art gallery or two, and spend time in a butterfly enclosure. These activities are also ideal for families who want to spend the day exploring the region. For the more adventurous at heart, there are plenty of hikes and nature walks on offer, as well as exciting river rafting options to choose from.

Turn Up The Heat

If you are visiting South Africa for the first time, or if you have not visited the Cape Winelands region before, it is important to note that summer can reach very hot temperatures. You will need to wear light clothing made from materials such as linen or cotton and be sure to bring along plenty of sunscreen.

While it can become quite heated in the Winelands, there are always places to relax in and cool down. This especially true of Stellenbosch, with its oak-lined streets providing much-needed shade in summer. Stop off at one of the many quaint and quirky eateries to whet your appetite before you head off to another exciting wine tasting. Be sure to pack bottled water if you will be exploring the towns on foot, and wear a hat if there is no shade.
